The aspire Programme
The aspire Graduate Programme has been designed to offer our graduates exposure to all of our businesses. Focusing on key areas, we have included training and development in all facets of our business – project management, engineering, customer services, planning, people management, commercial and financial management.
The programme comprises three placements of eight months each within both the regulated and non-regulated businesses across the group. Examples of projects included in previous graduate programmes include:
- Involvement with large software procurement bid
- Managing technicians within a service site environment
- Developing efficient methods to enable metering work
- Managing an assignment in India
- Assisting in contract negotiations with various clients
- Managing delivery of mains diversions through working with developers and authorities
- Reviewing and implementing new invoicing methods for a set up contract
Future projects will include:
- Managing a project team within a site or office based team
- Managing people and performance management with a team or as a project lead
- Working on commercial tenders and bids, leading to business growth and acquisitions
- Facilitating business efficiency projects with operational insourcing or outsourcing
- Managing an operational/engineering team
Throughout the programme, you will be supported both by experienced mentors and senior managers who will help guide you through your career with South Staffordshire Plc.

Who are we looking for?
We are looking to recruit 6 commercially minded graduates with desire, drive, passion and enthusiasm. If you possess real commercial sense with practical work experience, then read on.
Our requirements cover a range of disciplines including civil, mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering, business studies, project management, business systems, geography, business IT.
What do you need to apply?
- Minimum 2:2 or above
- Proven work experience
- Commercial skills
- Engineering, Business Studies, Project Management, Business Systems, Business IT, Geography discipline or any other business/practical based degree
- Excellent communication skills
- Desire to take on responsibility at a early stage
- Vision and ambition
- A full driving licence

Whilst you will need a 2:2 or above to be considered, we also need you to have had real, practical work experience within a commercial, industrial or service driven environment. So, if you've been working since graduating albeit not in your ideal job, we would love to hear from you.
Equally, if you have worked your way through your degree or had extensive work experience whilst studying your A levels – we want to talk to you.
